The Plotting Parlour
This painting depicts the infamous meeting that gave the Plotting Parlour in Hull’s Olde White Harte pub its name.
In 1688, with the arrival of William of Orange, set to overthrow the unpopular James ii from the throne of England, the catholic governor of Hull planned to arrest Protestant officers and soldiers of Hull’s garrison who sided with their liberator. It was in the Olde White Harte, then the home of the protestant deputy governor, that in Plotting Parlour, the plan was hatched to turn the tables on Hull’s Governor and arrest him first.
